Massive Picknicktable
Since 2020 the idea has been in my head to make a huge and heavy picknicktable with the same design as i made our canteen table. So when coming across some decent beams in 2024 on ebay i decided to pick them up and put them asside. only 2 months later i started this project without any idea what to do with the bench when it was done.
the beams were painted in black when i got them. so i had to sand them down completely. This took me about a day to complete with my beltgrinder. After that was done i had some superb looking beams and i straight away oiled them in a teak color. this made it look a bit darker brown, but keeping the wood visible as all was about keeping the wood visible.
The next thing to do was make the feet for the table. and i wanted this to be extremely decent, so i got 120x120x4 tube, and started cutting that up and welding it together to create a anchor shape twice. These would become the 2 feet. I have the bench support sit completely to the back of the bench, because it makes it all look extra massive. But it also keeps space for a possible extra feature of the future…
To determine the heights i have setup everything on pallets as a testsetup. i measured all the heights, and positions and with that information i finished welding up the frame. I cleaned up all the welds so it looks as neat as possible. After all metalwork was done i have sandblasted these feet deeply to get them rough and painted them in 2K paint.
The endresult is a huge super decent picknicktable.
