Kestrel housing

During our whole live we have had a kestrel house at the home orchard. These Kestrels are the perfect birds to keep the mouse and rat population in the orchard low. This is because Kestrels tend to house inside high poles and come back each year. This means we just need to make a nice nesthouse and a Kestrel family will live there every year and produce a new generation. Because the little birds are very hungry the parents have to keep catching mice all day which keeps the mouse population low so that we don’t have to get rid of the mice in other ways.

In 2019 the old nesthouse was pretty much rotten away, and the pole had been broken 3 times already so it was barely higher then the trees. I figured it was time for a project of making new nesthouses and so i started by finding metal for the one at home and 2 smaller ones in other fields.

The home nesthouse eventually got 10 meters high when in the ground, and i decided it would be safest to drive it in straight up with the tractor as can be seen on the video.
